Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
